Position Title: Policy + Arts Advocacy Intern (AKA Artivism Advocate Intern)
Organization: The KAW Project Inc.
Location: Remote/Virtual with Occasional In-Person Outreach to Artists/Arts Agencies in Intern’s Local Community
Duration: This is a 2-3 month internship position, with the possibility of extension based on performance and organizational needs.
Hours: This is a part-time internship, requiring approximately 10-15 hours a week (more if requested, w/ no more than 20 hours a week). The schedule is flexible to accommodate academic commitments.

Position Overview
The Policy and Advocacy Intern will play a crucial role in advancing the mission of The KAW Project Inc. by contributing to policy research, advocacy initiatives, and community engagement efforts. This internship offers a unique opportunity for individuals passionate about the intersection of art, education, and social change to gain hands-on experience in nonprofit policy and advocacy work.
Responsibilities
Policy Research:
- Research current policies related to art education, scholarships, and resources for artists.
- Stay informed about legislative developments and policy changes affecting the arts and education sectors.
Advocacy Initiatives:
- Collaborate with the advocacy team to develop and implement campaigns that promote increased support for art education.
- Engage with policymakers, community leaders, and stakeholders to advocate for positive changes in policies affecting artists.
Community Engagement:
- Assist in organizing and participating in community events that raise awareness about the importance of art education.
- Collaborate with partner organizations and community groups to amplify the impact of advocacy efforts.
Communication:
- Draft compelling content for communication materials, including press releases, social media posts, and newsletters, to support advocacy initiatives.
Qualifications
– Current enrollment in a relevant undergraduate or graduate program.
– Seeking college credit.
– Passion for the arts and a strong belief in the power of art to empower and inspire.
– Strong interest in the intersection of art, education, and advocacy.
– Excellent research and analytical skills.
– Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
– Ability to work collaboratively in a team and independently.
– Familiarity with nonprofit organizations and advocacy work is a plus.
