Vice President of Commercial Insurance, United Insurance Agencies

My name is Andrea Wells. I am an insurance agent and vice president of commercial insurance at Unite Insurance Agencies in Muncie, Indiana. My large book of business is apartments. There are several apartments all over the United States. I manage that book of business, our largest company account. On a daily basis I work on certificates of insurance. I mason out proposals. If there are new builder's risk or construction, I'll read the contracts and see what types of coverages they require. I also have a book of bed and breakfast accounts. We're insuring their business assets as well as their home which is their building and whatever types of assets they may have within there which is if something happens. If there's a fire, that's covered. If anything is stolen or whatever, that's covered. Or if there's any guest property. Something happens in guest property are covered as well. If they have any employees, we have workers company insurance. Mainly it's the property and casualty which is the building. In case someone slips and falls, we have that covered. I know recently there was a big fire on one of our accounts. They called in and they let the agent know as well as the claims manager. What the claims manager does, she take down the information. Then they send the information, they file the claim with the insurance companies, however many there are whether it's one for the building. There may be one for if they had business autos. There were business autos particularly in this building. They had to file a claim with the business auto carrier, with the property carrier. My hours are from 8:30 to 5:00. Our office is open from 9:00 to 5:00. I don't do much traveling. We mainly do everything on the phone or email. It's mainly that way. We'll mail policies. Sometimes I'll visit. I know several of our agents, they'll go and visit some of their clients. But for the most part, everything is done electronically or by the phone.
