>> My name is Jonathan Ostello. I'm a school counselor at J. Sarah Catholic High School. A typical day is, it's seasonal with my job. So in the fall season, I'm working with seniors. Because my case load is 9th through 12th graders. So in the fall, I'm helping all of my seniors apply for school. So I'm writing their letters of recommendation. I'm helping them through the applications, reviewing their applications. I'm looking over their resumes. I'm answering parent questions. So that's what I'm doing during the fall. During the winter months, it's usually planning for the next spring. And in springtime is when we meet with all of our students to go over their next year's schedules. So next week, I will be starting with juniors and then moving to sophomores and freshmen, and what we'll be doing is talking about their classes and what type of classes they should take for college. On a side note, every day I always have walk-ins where students come in and talk to me about personal social-related issues as well. Exciting. Chaotic. It requires you to be a good multitasker or at least organized. You have to be incredibly empathetic, that's a natural skill set, because students are going to come to you with problems that you may think are petty, like I have to get out of this biology class because I don't like this teacher. And for an adult, you hear that and you're like, well, get used to it, you're not going to like people the rest of your life. But to a 15-year-old, an adolescent, knowing where they're at developmentally, that is the most pressing issue at that point in their life.
