About Scout
Scout is an early-stage shopping app built on a simple belief: people already know what they want. We’re not here to tell you what to buy — we’re here to help you figure out the best time and way to buy it. Think of us as the smartest friend you have who happens to know everything about deals, timing, and value. We’re building tools that work for shoppers, not brands.
What You’ll Do
- Run press and media outreach — build journalist lists, draft pitches, manage follow-up for Scout’s feature launches
- Turn product moments into stories and place them
- Own App Store optimization — keywords, screenshots copy, review prompts
- Write and ship Scout’s email/newsletter content to users and waitlist
- Support the founder’s outreach pipeline with research and drafting
- Track what’s working: coverage, referral traffic, install attribution
Who You Are
- Currently enrolled in a Marketing, Communications, Journalism, or related program
- A sharp writer who can match voice — punchy pitch, friendly email, crisp App Store copy
- You follow consumer tech / shopping media and know what gets covered
- Comfortable with rejection math: 50 pitches, 3 replies, 1 story — and that’s a win
- Self-directed and comfortable in an early-stage environment where requirements evolve
- Eligible to receive academic credit through your university
What You’ll Learn
How a startup earns attention with no ad budget — positioning, pitching, and the unglamorous follow-up that actually lands coverage.
This Role Is Perfect For You If…
You want bylines, placements, and campaigns you ran yourself — not coffee runs at a big agency. Everything you ship is yours to point to.
What You’ll Get
- Academic credit (we’ll work with your school)
- Real placements and campaigns you can point to — portfolio work
- Direct mentorship from a founder with deep experience in consumer tech and digital commerce
- A front-row seat to building a consumer startup from the ground up
