Founding Product Quality & QA Engineering Intern — Launch Readiness
Settlyfe Inc.
ABOUT SETTLYFE
Settlyfe is building an AI-powered, end-to-end housing marketplace connecting renters, landlords, agents, and trusted service providers across the full housing journey—from search and leasing to moving, furniture, maintenance, and home services. As we prepare for launch, product quality is a core engineering responsibility, not a final checklist.
THE OPPORTUNITY
You will work directly with the founding, product, design, and engineering teams to make Settlyfe reliable, intuitive, and launch-ready. This role combines hands-on exploratory testing, structured QA, defect investigation, user-journey analysis, and light test automation.
“Founding” reflects the level of ownership: you will help define the quality bar, release criteria, regression process, and QA playbook future teams will use.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
– Test critical renter, landlord, agent, provider, marketplace, account, messaging, matching, and service-booking journeys across web and mobile experiences.
– Design and execute exploratory, functional, end-to-end, regression, usability, accessibility, cross-browser, and responsive test scenarios.
– Reproduce issues consistently and write clear bug reports with steps, expected versus actual behavior, severity, evidence, device or browser context, and suspected scope.
– Validate APIs, forms, permissions, notifications, search, filters, payments or transactional flows where available, and third-party integrations.
– Partner with developers and designers to clarify acceptance criteria before implementation and verify fixes after implementation.
– Build reusable test cases, checklists, test data, release smoke tests, and launch-readiness dashboards.
– Help prioritize defects by customer impact, business risk, frequency, and launch criticality.
– Identify confusing experiences and edge cases, then recommend practical product or design improvements.
– Contribute light automation using tools such as Playwright, Cypress, Jest, Postman, or similar tools depending on experience.
– Participate in sprint planning, demos, retrospectives, release reviews, and weekly quality readouts.
HOW SUCCESS IS MEASURED
We value risk reduction and actionable evidence, not raw bug counts. Core KPIs include:
– Critical user journeys covered and release smoke tests completed.
– Valid, reproducible issues found before release, with clear severity and ownership.
– Regression pass rate and reduction in escaped defects.
– Turnaround time from issue discovery to verification.
– Quality of test cases, documentation, and launch-readiness recommendations.
– At least 10 high-quality, actionable findings per major testing cycle when product scope supports it.
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
– Student or early-career candidate interested in QA engineering, software testing, product engineering, computer science, information systems, HCI, or product management.
– Curious and methodical: you naturally ask “what could break?” and can explain why it matters.
– Strong written communication and attention to detail.
– Able to distinguish a defect, usability problem, missing requirement, and product preference.
– Comfortable learning unfamiliar software and testing from multiple user perspectives.
– Basic understanding of web or mobile applications, APIs, browser developer tools, Git, or databases is helpful.
– Experience with JavaScript or TypeScript, Playwright, Cypress, Jest, Postman, SQL, or automated testing is a plus, not a requirement.
– Able to work independently while collaborating closely with a fast-moving team.
WHAT YOU’LL GAIN
– Direct experience defining quality and release readiness for an AI marketplace.
– Portfolio-ready test plans, automation, defect analysis, and product-quality results.
– Close collaboration with founders, designers, product leaders, and full-stack engineers.
– Ownership of QA systems and standards that can continue beyond the internship.
– Consideration for expanded responsibility, paid continuation, or longer-term opportunities based on company needs, performance, and applicable law. No future opportunity is guaranteed.
TIME AND COMPENSATION
Full time is 30-40 hours per week. Part time is a minimum of 20 hours per week. Scheduling is flexible and based on deliverables. The position is initially unpaid. Remote candidates are welcome; candidates in San Diego may also join optional in-person product and launch collaboration.
HOW TO APPLY
Please submit your resume and a short note explaining why product quality interests you. Include one example of a bug, confusing experience, or reliability problem you found and how you investigated it. Links to testing projects, GitHub, portfolios, or technical writing are welcome but not required.
