THEATER EDUCATION APPRENTICE – MANAGEMENT & DESIGN FOCUS

Position Type: Seasonal

Department: Education & Community Programs

Program: Vacation Programs/Gamm Summer Intensive

Reports to: Director of Education & Community Programs

Works Closely with: Camp Directors, Camp Assistant Directors

Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:15 AM to 3:45 PM – Additional Time as Needed

Dates: Training/ Orientation: June 30th, July 1st & July 2nd – 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM
Program Runs: July 6th to August 14th – Monday-Friday – 8:15 AM to 3:45 PM
Performances: GSI Jr. – July 17th @ 2:00 PM
GSI – July 24th @ 7:00 PM & July 25th @ 2:00 PM
GSY Week 1 – July 31st @ 2:00 PM
GSY Week 2 – August 7th @ 2:00 PM
GSY Week 3 – August 14th @ 2:00 PM
Program Wrap Up/ Strike: August 17th & 18th (Hours TBD)

Compensation: $3,000.00 Stipend. Housing/Transportation Not Provided.

The Gamm Theatre’s Education Apprenticeship program is designed to give college students and early career theater design and arts management professionals the opportunity to expand their skills into theatre education. While continuing to hone their craft as designers/managers, the apprentices will learn how their talents can be applied to the operations of a theater’s education department, while gaining valuable skills in classroom management and program coordination.

In 2026, the Education Apprenticeship will be offered on two tracks: Management & Design and Community, Crafting & Costuming. The Gamm’s Education Department is seeking to hire one apprentice for each track.

Apprentices will be expected to be present for special events and performances during their contract.

EDUCATION APPRENTICE – MANAGEMENT & DESIGN FOCUS

The Education Apprentice – Management & Design works with the Director of Education & Community Programs, production staff and teaching artists to bring the production elements of the summer program to life. This apprentice will be responsible for collaborating with students and staff to source any props and set pieces needed, generating and sending rehearsal reports each day, and stage managing the final production for each camp.

Responsibilities:

1. Arrival & Dismissal Coordination

  • Manage camper sign-in each morning, informing staff and teaching artists of any absent campers and check-in with families as needed.
  • Manage dismissal and sign-out each afternoon, ensuring that each student safely leaves the campus.

2. Stage Management, Design & Production Support

  • Note blocking during rehearsals for assigned productions.
  • Create necessary tracking documents for props, set pieces and actors.
  • Generate and distribute daily rehearsal reports and performance reports.
  • Call the show and operate the board for assigned productions.
  • Generate a list of props for each production; source or create props as needed.
  • Design or assist with design of lighting and sound for all productions.

3. General Camp Support

  • Serve as a mentor for campers, providing guidance and encouragement as needed.
  • Support staff as needed with classroom management.
  • Support Director of Education & Community Programs with miscellaneous administrative or production related projects as needed.
  • Serve in lunch duty rotation.
  • Participate in daily staff meetings.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • At least 18 years of age or older.
  • High school diploma, GED or equivalency.
  • 1-2 years of college and/or professional experience in stage management, props production, technical theater, or theater education.
  • Passionate about theater and education.
