Job description

REAL INTERNSHIP. REAL WORK.

Skip the generic internship. This is hands-on work inside a real, operating art gallery.

This is not a classroom exercise.
You’ll work on real projects, with real deadlines, inside a real business.

About the role

J. Nunez Gallery is a contemporary art gallery with two locations in New Jersey. We work at the intersection of art, marketing, and creative business.

We’re looking for an Art & Marketing Intern who wants practical experience and portfolio-worthy work.

This internship includes two possible tracks, depending on your availability and strengths:

Track 1 — Creative & Marketing (Remote / Hybrid)

You will work on:

Social media content (Instagram, visuals, captions, campaigns)

Marketing ideas and execution (not just brainstorming)

Visual assets (basic design, layouts, presentations)

Research and creative support for gallery projects

Helping shape how the gallery communicates and presents itself

This track is flexible and can be done remotely.

Track 2 — Gallery Operations (On-Site — Immediate Need)

We are currently prioritizing candidates who can take on real responsibility inside the gallery.

You will work on:

Opening and managing the gallery during scheduled hours

Welcoming visitors and handling basic interactions

Supporting daily operations and maintaining the space

Assisting with artwork presentation and organization

As you gain experience, you may have the opportunity to manage the gallery independently during scheduled hours.

Requirements for this track:

Ability to be physically present in Millburn, NJ

Consistent weekly availability

Reliability and comfort working independently

Important:You can apply for either track.

Skills you’ll develop and use

  • Content creation across multiple social media platforms
  • Basic graphic design and visual layout
  • Marketing execution and campaign development
  • Creative research and opportunity discovery
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving
  • Audience research and lead-generation thinking
  • Visual communication and brand positioning
  • Understanding how different platforms serve different objectives
  • Evaluating ideas based on results, not assumptions
  • Client interaction and professional communication
  • Real-world business judgment and responsibility
  • Learning how to turn creativity into action and action into measurable outcomes

What you’ll gain

  • Hands-on experience inside an operating art business
  • Real projects that can become part of your portfolio
  • Direct mentorship, honest feedback, and practical guidance
  • Exposure to how art, marketing, branding, sales, and business operations connect
  • Experience working with real objectives, constraints, deadlines, and results
  • A better understanding of how businesses make decisions, evaluate ideas, and adapt
  • The ability to question assumptions and look beyond the most obvious solution
  • Practice using creativity to solve problems and reach specific goals
  • Greater confidence researching, learning, and working through unfamiliar challenges
  • A professional reference based on your contribution and performance
  • The possibility of a longer-term collaboration if the experience works well for both sides

***Most importantly, you will develop a way of thinking that extends beyond this internship: how to question, research, improve, take initiative, and use creativity with purpose.

This role is a good fit if you are:

  • Hungry for knowledge and willing to learn independently
  • Curious about how businesses actually operate
  • Interested in art, marketing, business, design, or creative strategy
  • Willing to question your own assumptions
  • Comfortable being challenged and receiving direct feedback
  • Interested in understanding the objective behind the work—not just completing the task
  • Able to research what you do not know and bring back useful answers
  • Motivated to find better or less obvious ways of doing things
  • Interested in using creativity to solve problems and reach goals
  • Comfortable taking initiative while still following guidance
  • Reliable, responsible, and able to follow through
  • Prepared to contribute, improve, and take real value from the opportunity

This internship will give you as much as you are prepared to put into it.
