The Thomas R. Pickering Foreign Affairs Graduate Fellowship Program is designed for those committed to making a global impact as U.S. diplomats. Fellows receive comprehensive support for graduate education, internships, and professional development, paving the way to a rewarding career as a Foreign Service Officer.

Benefits of the Fellowship:

  • Up to $42,000 annually for two years, covering tuition, room, board, books, and fees for a master’s degree in relevant fields.
  • Orientation and mentoring from experienced Foreign Service Officers.
  • Two summer internships: one at the U.S. Department of State in Washington, D.C., and one at an overseas U.S. embassy or consulate.
  • Guaranteed employment with the U.S. Department of State Foreign Service upon successful completion of the program and meeting entry requirements, with a five-year service commitment.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • U.S. citizenship.
  • Admission to a two-year, full-time, on-campus master’s degree program at a U.S.-based institution starting in fall 2025.
  • A minimum cumulative GPA of 3.2 on a 4.0 scale.
